School Sport NZ are pleased to release the 2025 calendar of sanctioned national and island secondary school events to schools. The 2025 School Sport NZ Event Calendar can be found on our website HERE

Please Note: All details are correct at the time of release, but unforeseen changes may occur. Some NSOs are still confirming dates and venues.    Any changes will be posted on the School Sport NZ website so please check regularly. Entry information and material as well as Health & Safety Plans for all events will also be posted on the School Sport NZ website so it is your first stop for all event information. The online calendar allows users to import the calendar into their google or outlook calendars and has the functionality to provide a month-by-month view for quick access to events.  There is also a search function for users.  

With almost 250 events available to schools and students in 2025, there will be no shortage of opportunities. The tiered approach to the calendar of events is an opportunity for NSOs to bring to life many of the principles of the Sport NZ ‘Balance is Better’ strategy aimed at engaging more of our rangatahi in sport and physical activity.  There are 110 Championships, 87 Cups and 39 Carnivals.

In 2025 we are excited to introduce a new format to the historical NISS and SISS Snow sports event. We will be welcoming all NZ Secondary Schools to compete at any of these events to create new opportunities for inter-island experiences. We will be working closely with Snow Sports NZ and our event providers to refine the formats of these events to ensure a safe, fair, and exciting competition for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.

We also see the shift of the SISS event to Mt Hutt for 202 and the team are excited and ready to host teams in the Canterbury region.

There is also an additional snow sports event joining our calendar in 2025 with  Snowplanet hosting the inaugural NZ Indoor Snowsports Championships in Auckland in the lead-up to Winter Tournament Week.

Co-coordinating a calendar of this size to meet the needs of both schools and sport in terms of timing, eligibility, cost, venues and health and safety is a complex process and we wish to thank all NSOs and event organisers for taking part in the sanctioning process over the past few months.

We are looking forward to being able to deliver a full programme of exciting opportunities to schools in 2025 and students representing their school, reaching their potential and having fun with their friends.
